Information and Help for San Diego Wild Fire Victims

In October of 2007, the residents of San Diego experienced something they will never forget: fire, smoke, loss, financial devastation and heartbreak. The wildfires that ravaged the area were nothing short of catastrophic, and with evacuations exceeding over 500,000 people, it was the one of the largest mandatory evacuations in United States history.

Unfortunately, two of these fires are now alleged to have been caused by SDG&E. A class action lawsuit has been filed in the Superior Court of San Diego against the San Diego Gas & Electric Co., whose defective power lines are believed to have caused the Witch Creek and Rice Canyon fires. A team of experts and investigators at the Witch Creek scene observed SDG&E investigators, adjusters and utility workers gathering information and making alterations and repairs. Due to concerns about the potential for the removal and destruction of evidence, SDG&E was contacted and an agreement was reached to preserve the scene and evidence.

Amazingly, the people of San Diego found the courage to reach out and help the displaced and to assist their neighbors and fellow citizens by providing shelter, food, and clothing for those affected by the fires. When the dust settled many people were left with the grim reality of destroyed homes, many of which were built by their families, lost and irreplaceable possessions and family heirlooms and nothing but memories of the past. Our legal group is dedicated to protecting the rights of those affected by the San Diego wildfires by seeking justice and ensuring those responsible are held accountable for the damage they have caused.

The Witch Creek Fire

The Witch Creek Fire east of Ramona covered over 190,000 acres and resulted in 1,125 residential structures and 509 buildings being destroyed, 77 residential structures and buildings damaged, and including 40 firefighter injuries and 2 civilian deaths.

The Rice Canyon Fire

The Rice Canyon Fire in Fallbrook burned over 9,000 acres and resulted in the destruction of 206 residential structures, 2 commercial properties and 40 buildings. This fire also led to five injuries.
